Letters to the Editor: Historical Society Receives Absolute Charter
July 25, 2011
To the Editor:
The Cornwall Historical Society is pleased to announce that we have received our Absolute Charter from the NYS Board of Regents of The University of the State of New York. This distinction is granted to organizations with Provisional Charters that meet the Regents organizational and education standards which include “a record of financial stability, programmatic accomplishment, and a well-founded reputation for excellence.”
Incorporated in 1999, the Cornwall Historical Society’s mission to promote, educate, and protect the history of Cornwall, Cornwall-on-Hudson, Mountainville and the surrounding areas is an integral part of NYS educational system. In our years of existence, we have supported and participated in many public venues honoring the people, organizations and locations that have made Cornwall such a uniquely wonderful community.
Many of the items in our museum at Town Hall are old photos, books, flags, maps, yearbooks, and other items that have a direct link to the Cornwall area and its’ people. Also included are uniforms from local veterans of the Armed Forces, as well as school sports and civic activities uniforms that were worn by local family members.
We continually seek donations for our collection, and work to finance a permanent home to showcase our history. Our meetings are the 4th Monday of each month at 7pm in Munger Cottage, with a brief business meeting followed by a topical speaker.
For information on becoming a member or to make a donation, please call 534-1279 and leave a message. Further information can be found on our website: www.cornwallhistoricalsocietyny.com.
Sincerely,
Bruce Bryan
President
