To the Editor:
We had the pleasure of taking part in the second Hike/Bike over Rt. 218 yesterday. It was a great day. We were happy to see so many fellow hikers, including families with small children, some in strollers. We appreciated the opportunity to walk along this special road, enjoying the amazing vistas of the Hudon that we hardly see as we whizz by in our cars. Many bicyclists, we're sure, have been eager to ride Rt. 218 safely without auto traffic. When we left the mountain at around 1:30, there had already been 150 hikers and bikers on the walkway.
Along the way we stopped to pick the red raspberries, which were at the height of perfection, and every time we saw a family with small children pass by, we reminded them to look for the raspberries. The children seemed to be delighted to find these small treasures, as they scrambled along the roadway picking and eating these delicious treats.
We want to thank Andrew Argenio and Barbara Gosda and the host of volunteers who helped to provide such a wonderful experience. We encourage all the members of the Village board to get behind this project and perhaps support extending it to fall, the most beautiful time of year in the Hudson Valley.
Such beautiful country belongs to all off us, and we do cherish the opportunity to enjoy it.
See you all next Sunday!
