Cornwall Plaza will soon be playing host to the Encore Consignment shop, to be located in a renovated storefront at the far end of the block that is home to Dunkin Donuts.
The shop’s proceeds will directly benefit The Greater Hudson Valley Family Health Center, according to the health center’s Director for Development, Regina McGrade. McGrade said that they’re hoping for the shop to open at the end of July.
The shop’s manager, Joan DiTullo, is no stranger to getting a consignment shop running. DiTullo helped start the New to You boutique for St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital and then served as manager of that store.
DiTullo said that a consignment shop is a win, win, win situation.
“The people who consign clothing will get money, the health center will get support and clothing gets reused,” she said.
McGrade and DiTullo were quick to explain the difference between a consignment shop and a thrift store. At a consignment shop a person brings in slightly used or new, high quality items for the store to sell and splits the money with shop, DiTullo said. In the case of the Encore Consignment shop the split will be 60 percent of the profit going to the store and 40 percent to the consigner.
McGrade said that the shop will focus mainly on women’s and teenage girls ‘clothing at first, but hopes to eventually bring in other items like antiques. She added that the shop will also be a place to get information on the Greater Hudson Valley Family Health Center.
