General News: 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee
July 07, 2011
More than two dozen talented young teens will take the stage this Friday and Saturday to perform The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, a production they created in just over a week as part of the Hudson Valley Summer Stage experience run by Karen Eremin.
The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is a musical comedy that centers around a fictional spelling bee set in a geographically ambiguous Putnam Valley Middle School. Six quirky adolescents compete in the Bee, run by three equally-quirky grown-ups.
Producer Karen Eremin writes that “if you love words, humor and want to see absolute magic onstage after only eight full days of rehearsal, this is the place for you this weekend.”
Musician Max Finkelstein, a senior at the Lawrenceville School, is the musical director along with several band members who are now in college. Ronda Barber of the Step by Step Dance Studio choreographed the show.
Eremin is planning a second Hudson Valley Summer Stage production in August, this one for teens and pre-teens, ages 9 to 14. That group will be taking on Little Shop of Horrors, another musical comedy.
