Letters to the Editor: Route 218 Hike & Bike Plans Clarified

June 23, 2011

To the Editor:

I wish to set the record straight regarding the Route 218 “Hike and Bike,” an eight-week event that will open Route 218 to walking, hiking and biking from 11 am to 3 pm on Sundays this summer. I have gotten quite an education with the difficulties in coordinating two municipalities, the DOT, and a volunteer group to work together on this project. It was these difficulties that led to the postponement of the proposed plan to begin this past Sunday. My apologies for any inconvenience that this may have caused, and fortunately, there were no issues, according to Officer in Charge John Pena.

Regardless of this setback, I still believe this “Hike and Bike” proposal has merit and will have a positive effect on our community businesses and residents. If anyone has questions, please contact me to avoid the confusion of some of my fellow Board members at Monday’s meeting.

John F. Kennedy once said “One person can make a difference and everyone should try.” I believe in that statement and think we should stay focused on positive action for positive results.

I am encouraged by the progress we are making in many areas of village government from the summer youth program, the bandstand, our energy efficiency audits, footing inspection for the DPW building, hiring a village engineer, filling the vacancy on the planning board and supporting the police in an extra night shift for the summer months.
Let’s stay positive. There are not problems, there are challenges. If we work as a unit we can succeed. Let’s keep moving forward.

Andrew Argenio
Trustee
Cornwall-on-Hudson

Comments:

Andrew, is that even legal, "Please contact me and disregard my confused fellow Village Board members," to paraphrase you a bit?

Each trustee or 2 trustees have projects and areas of responsibility. i.e.Parks,DPW,Summer Playground, etc.Trustee Gosda and I have this project.By Mr. Kane calling the DOT it causes confusion. He could have and should have called me or Trustee Gosda.I do not call Mrs. Berson, the PBA reprezentitive to find out how negotiations are going. I call the mayor or Mr Kane.
