General News: Senior Prom-Goers Take Over RIverfront

Good luck stayed with the Cornwall Central High School Class of 2011 on Friday night when sunny skies prevailed while hundreds of prom-goers took over the riverfront at Donahue Memorial Park.
The crowds started arriving early and by shortly after 5 pm, people started parking their cars along Dock Hill Road to walk to the riverfront for the annual picture-taking ritual. Couples, the girls dressed in magnificent long dresses with high heels and the boys in their neat tuxedos, somehow managed to drive all the way to the parking area so that they didn’t have to trudge far in their finery.
Two village police officers, Officer Michael Lug and Officer John Antinori, directed traffic at the entry to the park, stopping cars for long periods of time while another officer searched the parking lot for empty spaces. Officer Lug said that the department was unaware that this year’s prom started at 6pm instead of 7 pm and that when they arrived as assigned at 5 pm, the place was already turning into a madhouse.
After the picture taking with groups of friends posing, dates posing together, and family members thrilled to see their sons and daughters looking so grown up, the crowd started to break up and couples entered stretch limos, private cars and buses.
Next stop: West Point Club for any evening of dining and dancing overlooking the Hudson where, according to various sources, a fine time was had by all. One note of interest: the Prom Queen was Kaitlyn Benitez-Strine and the Prom King was Nicholas Blair.
