Letters to the Editor: Two Trustees to Meet Residents This Saturday

June 08, 2011

To the Editor:

Just as a reminder, Barbara Gosda and I will be at the Village Hall this Saturday, June 11, 2011 at 11am for residents to come voice any concerns they may wish to discuss.

The closure of Route 218 for hikers and bikers is moving ahead. We are waiting for the Town of Highlands to submit a letter of support to the State and we should receive final approval.

We are very pleased to have eliminated the parking pass fee for seniors at Donohue Park. Although this only applies to Village residents, we hope to add Town senior citizens to the free pass soon.

The summer playground program is being finalized and we will have a full report at the next Village meeting.

We have learned that steel from the World Trade Center is available to municipalities that would like to pay tribute to the events of September 11, 2001. We will be presenting our proposal at the next meeting to obtain this artifact and create a monument .

We look forward to seeing you on the 11th at Village Hall.

Trustees
Andrew Argenio
Barbara Gosda

Comments:

It seems to me that this community has a number of major problems none of which have anything to do with recreational hikers, bikers, elimination of a $2 (or is it $5? The Village website has no info...) parking charge or yet another 9/11 twisted-steel "monument." We have a dysfunctional DPW garage, no police chief, no building inspector, runaway legal bills and a water system that leaks nearly half of all the water it draws out of our reservoir.

The previous administration did itself no favors by spending time and money on the anti-Donahue /pro-Scenic Hudson boulder in the park. I happen to be fully pro-Scenic Hudson, but I think the effort put into that rock was an example of amateur administrators playing in the sandbox rather than dealing with important stuff. Let's not do it again.
