Letters to the Editor: Public Welcome to Walk the Labyrinth

The newly-built Labyrinth at The Grail.
The newly-built Labyrinth at The Grail.
May 05, 2011

To the Editor:

Construction of the Labyrinth at the Grail Center in Cornwall-on-Hudson was completed last weekend and we want to thank all those in our community who have made it possible--especially all the hard-working volunteers who carted tons of stones to the site, layered them in place and spread mulch along the walking paths. Over the course of two days, approximately 35 local volunteers came to help us out and we are deeply grateful. The construction volunteers were grateful too--for the pizzas and refreshments donated by Leo’s and Nature’s Pantry! We want to thank ALL of the many local business and individual donors whose financial contributions made this project possible. You can read a complete listing of their names on the events page of our website: http://www.thegrailatcornwall.org/events.html.

Very special thanks goes to the Labyrinth designer, Cornwall resident and SUNY New Paltz Professor, Terry Murray, whose beautiful design and perfect use of the stonewalled site will be appreciated for many years to come. And a very, very special thanks to project coordinator, Barbara  Smith Gioia. This project was born in her imagination and she has worked tirelessly to make it a reality.

In the future, labyrinth programs will be offered by the Grail staff, as well as others from the Cornwall community. Or individuals can come on their own and walk it when it’s not in use. Feel free to take time out; reflect on your life’s journey; enjoy the beauty that surrounds you. To access the labyrinth, enter through the driveway leading to our smaller building at 121 Duncan Avenue. Then head for the woods. You can’t miss it.

We look forward to welcoming you.

Director of The Grail

Comments:

I am so excited to see the labyrinth! The Grail is already a wonderful place to go to..having a labyrinth there just makes it that much better. The land is stunningly beautiful and the ladies there are very welcoming!

I walked the labyrinth Friday morning with my grandson. What a beautiful job everyone did. We are fortunate to have the opportunity to enjoy it.
