General News: Poetry Contest Awards to Young Poets
May 03, 2011
From the Cornwall Public Library
Winners in the 7th annual Timothy Mumford Memorial Poetry Competition were announced at the Awards Ceremony held at Cornwall Public Library on Sunday, May 1st.
This year’s judges – Randy Enos, John Kelly and Erin Milsom – selected winners in each of the five age categories and a best overall poem from the 105 original works submitted by children and youth ages 5-18. The judges read and assessed poems with no knowledge of their authors except the age category in which they fell, thus establishing a fair and objective foundation upon which to judge.
The poets’ family, friends, library trustees and staff members sat listening with rapt attention while each of the winners read their winning poem. Category winners received a $25 gift card for Barnes & Noble; the best overall winner received a $50 gift card.
The 2011 Winners are listed below:
Ages 5-6 Zain Ali Altaf, age 6
Ages 7-8-9 Taylor Mellon, age 9
Ages 10-11-12 Emma Conti, age 10
Ages 13-14-15 Amy Dunaief, age 14
Ages 16-17-18 Yoo Won Shin, age 17
Best Overall Sam Knight, age 18
