Letters to the Editor: Schools are An Investment in Our Children
April 05, 2011
To the Editor:
We are all about to have the task of voting yes or no on our school budget. No matter how you vote, jobs will be cut and our schools will have a bit less to offer our children.
There is all kinds of debate: sports vs. music, assistant coaches vs. teaching assistants. The list goes on. There is no easy way around this and from what I can see, the Board of Education & SBAC are working hard and listening to the public for their ideas.
I am asking that if you are going to vote, do not just vote on a number. Please make an informed decision. No one wants to pay higher taxes, but it is an investment in our children. What better way to spend your money?

There is a easy way to address these issues...the union offering concessions that could save these programs and save jobs. The teachers need to take a hard look at the position the union is taking because although some teacher may not be on the chopping block this year they maybe on the list next year.

Why did the school board reschedule the next budget meeting to the week of spring break when many families are out of town??
