Library to offer free college admissions and financial aid program
CORNWALL, NY – The college application process is one of the most taxing times for families. To help alleviate some of this stress, the library will be offering two programs for college-bound students and their parents: a College Admissions program on Monday, September 19, and a Financial Aid program, “Can You Afford to Pay for College?” on Thursday, October 20. Both programs will be presented at 6:30pm in the library community room. The presenter, Elizabeth Levine from Signature College Counseling, of Central Valley, NY, is an independent educational consultant with a certification in college admissions counseling.
The September program aims to demystify the daunting college admissions process and lend insight to this complex experience. Among some of the topics to be discussed: the importance of finding the right fit in your college search; the choice of topic for the college essay; and the SAT vs. the ACT.
The financial aid program in October will focus on the facts on obtaining financial aid: how college choice will affect your bottom line; college sticker prices and what they really mean; and what is “Expected Family Contribution” and how it will impact your bank account. Levine will talk about a real life example of a family’s financial aid picture, and how this affects their final decision.
These are perfect for anyone who missed similar programs offered at the High School, or to anyone who needs more guidance during this process. Both programs are free and open to the public – no registration is required.
