General News: Peace Out Conference for Middle Schoolers
March 28, 2011
With violence and bullying on the upswing in schools across America, Orange County officials are offering a free conference open to seventh and eight grade students to explore how to reduce bullying.
The Peace Out Conference will feature interactive workshops, presentations, and conversations to promote peace instead of violence and bullying among students. It’s being organized by the Orange County Youth Bureau on Wednesday, April 20 from 9 am to 5:30 pm at Monhagen Middle School, 555 County Route 78, in Middletown.
“The Peace Out Conference will provide an excellent forum for youth to talk, listen, connect, and explore resources that are available to them. It’s important for them to understand that they don’t have to go it alone,” said Orange County Executive Ed Diana. “The conference will be a productive and beneficial way to spend a day of spring break.”
Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis and participants must be accompanied by an adult or group leader. Limited transportation to the even will be available from the Newburgh Activity Center and the Port Jervis Middle School. Lunch will be included for all participants.
For registration forms or more information, visit the Youth Bureau Department page on the County website at www.orangecountygov.com or call 615-3620.
