Letters to the Editor: Now We Can Move Forward

March 17, 2011

To the Editor:

Now that Election Day is finally past us, it is with my sincere thanks that my family and I live in a Village with residents that care so deeply about their community that they want to express their views and concerns and make their voices heard.

As Trustee Elect, it is my hope that we can move forward to meet the challenges that come before us with a clear vision for what our future will bring.

As I have repeatedly stated, look in the rearview mirror long enough to see what’s behind you, and focus ahead to see where we go and how we do it with success. The blame will fall to where it belongs, but the blame-game will get us nowhere.

I know we need productive change in our village government. I know we need to be an open and responsive government and we need to spend your money wisely. I know we need to listen more, share information more, and give you the opportunity to speak at meetings. I know we need to use technology to your advantage, and let you be part of the process, because you are part of the solution.

I have expressed to you my plans for our village. I’ve told you that you should decide with referendums the issues that will change the way your village runs. You should decide with referendums when we spend large sums of your money. You need to know that your village government is bidding for services on contracts. You should have the ability to check village codes online. You should have the ability to watch your government in action from your home computer.

I envision our future with an expansion of our riverfront park. I believe that seniors and veterans should be exempt from paying for a parking pass to Donahue Park. I would like to work with NYSDOT to close Route 218 one day per weekend to allow for biking and hiking. I would like to explore ways to save energy throughout our village. I would like to protect our environment through planning and zoning, and recycling our waste.

We have a lot of work before us, and as your Trustee I will hit the ground running. I have listened with open ears, seen with eyes wide open, and have heard you. I pledge to act on the great ideas, suggestions, and yes, complaints about the current situation, and remain respectful of the trust you have placed in me.

Andrew Argenio
Trustee Elect
Cornwall-on-Hudson
