To the Editor:
As the villagers approach Tuesday’s election, we have the advantage of 20/20 hindsight.
Was the DPW building conceived and built honorably? There are so many questions about the conflict of interest with the previous mayor and trustees. Why did they ignore previous engineers’ reports and advice? Why was the village lawyer and the LDC lawyer the same? Why was a 20-year-old DPW building sold to the new building’s contractor? Was there a bid process used for materials, architect, engineers, and contractor? Why does no one else have copies of the plans? Did the village’s insurance company know? Was $1 million a good price or could we have done better? Are NYS engineers now less qualified than the village’s engineers were then? Was this building an example of the “good old boy” network? Are they willing to put their money where their mouth is?
My father once told me honor was something you do not for other people, but something you do for yourself. Were all the players honorable or maybe a little bit “sleazy”?
