To the Editor,
As with any election, whether it be presidential, congressional, state or local there will always be some time of controversy. Unfortunately this is a fact of life unless an incumbent happen to be running unopposed. Obviously the latter is not the case in Cornwall-on-Hudson.
I don’t profess to be a political expert or even claim to be up on most current events, but what I can say, and know, is that the Village of Cornwall-on-Hudson residents really need to be informed before they cast their vote.
Having lived in the Cornwall community for many years before relocating, I as well as my husband have many close ties to the area. If there was a way to pack up Cornwall-on-Hudson and move it to our area, that is what we would do. The reason is pretty simple, Cornwall-on-Hudson has that certain aura about it. Whether it is because you feel safe knowing that the police are immediately available when summoned to a call. Or maybe it’s the fact of knowing the volunteer fireman are ready and willing to wake up out of a sound sleep to come to your aid, or that you are confident that your elected officials are doing what is best for you.
Watching my husband read through Village Board minutes on line for hours on end was extremely annoying to say the least, until it dawned on me. The quaint little Village that we had called home could possibly be lead into further turmoil if the proper candidates are not placed in office.
Admittedly I wouldn’t know Mayor Gross if I fell over him, but I do know he has created more than his fair share of controversy since taking office and has accomplished little or nothing. This is quite evident and factual after reading the minutes on the Village website. It quite ironic to read that Trustee Gosda along with former Trustee Gioia on two, that’s right, two separate occasions made motions to appoint the attorney for the Village. Now that Mayor Gross doesn’t have the majority in his favor, he claims that what the current majority did was improper or illegal and is throwing the Village further into debt with unnecessary legal bills to defend his actions.
Hopefully the Village voters will be able to look back on the Gross administration and say to themselves “It’s all in the past now.”
I urge the Village residents to bring normalcy, competency, and a true feeling of safety back to the Village by electing Brendan Coyne for Mayor, Mark Edsall and Doug Vatter for Trustee.
