To the Editor:
As Bob Dylan once sang, "Let us not talk falsely now. The hour is getting late." In the final moments before the village election, Mr. Edsall would have us all repeat the mantra of "The 3 Gs" as the embodiment of everything that is, or ever was, wrong in the village.
In truth, the idea of a ticket in village politics seems to have begun with Mr Edsall & Mr. Vatter, with Mr. Coyne in tow, as local signs attest. Neither Joe Gross, Barbara Gosda, nor I ever ran collectively. Yet we did have a common purpose, and that was to untangle the conflicts of interest that were rife in our government. I think it's now safe to say that the 800 lb. gorilla in the room is the DPW building debacle. The way in which this project evolved became a unifying call to duty for the three of us in seeking public office. Virtually every issue that is currently paralyzing village government stems, either directly or indirectly, from the series of misguided decisions which resulted in taxpayers buying a pig in a poke for one million dollars...and counting.
If we can lift the campaign smoke screen of "The 3 Gs", other words might, and should, emerge as we think about the DPW project. Words like: Cavalier, Disengagement, Incompetence, Negligence. We all must bear responsibility for our actions: Please vote this Tuesday.
Sincerely, Rick Gioia
