To the Editor:
We all have a lot to think about on Tuesday, and, hopefully, everyone in the Village has the sense to see through the smoke screen of Joe Gross and his blind followers who seem to have nothing positive to offer and feel comfortable supporting a Mayor who has no accomplishments to show as part of his administration.
A case in point is Ms. Vellone, who most recently takes aim at several upstanding members of our community. Since I am not sure how much Ms. Vellone knows about Cornwall-on-Hudson since she, in contrast to those she criticizes, seems to be new on the scene. Ms. Vellone, I will help you out with some facts.
DPW Building – The state has not done a structural analysis. They have indicated that a professional should be hired to design the corrective work, which is exactly what Vatter, Kane and Edsall wanted to do. Why do Gross and Gosda object to doing exactly what the state asked for? Maybe if they had nothing negative to say, they would be forced to show any positive accomplishment they have caused, when there appear to be none.
Legal Bills – A significant amount of the bills were caused by the Mayor and his repeated challenges of the attorney he refuses to recognize. Have you asked Mayor Gross how many meetings he called, sat in on, and ran up the legal bills, only to say he refused to pay the bill because he didn’t pick the law firm? Gross is just as responsible for the bills, he just is acting irresponsibly by not paying the bills he helped run up.
Law Firm selection – Perhaps you should read Trustee Edsall’s letter. It is quite clear what the selection process for law firms has been and it is not what Gross is claiming. Maybe you should read the information from the State also so you can understand selecting a law firm is not an appointment, it is a contract. So Gross is wrong again.
In closing, in contrast to your letter, I wish to thank Jim Kane, Doug Vatter and Mark Edsall for hanging in there and trying to do what is legal and right, given the fact that every step has been a fight with Mayor Gross obstructing every action and ignoring every procedure and law along the way. And as for wishes, I wish we had an active state government that would hold Mr. Gross accountable every time he thumbs his nose at the law, making our democracy in the Village an embarrassment.
