To the Editor:
It’s pretty simple. Proper legal counsel = prevention of lawsuits.
Without proper legal counsel our little village could possibly suffer law suits that would put it in a grave financial position.
This is why I will vote for Mayor Gross as Mayor of Cornwall-on-Hudson again. He insists that legal counsel is needed for every contract, no matter the size. This may seem stubborn to those who are not thinking of possible litigation scenarios.
Take the soil sampling company, which was contracted to test the DPW grounds without legal counsel over Mayor Gross’s nay vote. If an employee of that company had, in drilling for samples, caused a sink hole and was severely or fatally injured, we as a Village would be liable for his and his family’s future well-being.
It’s like wearing your seatbelt: so rarely needed that some people are stupid enough not to wear one.
I don’t drive without a seatbelt. I want a Mayor who is so interested in protecting our Village that he will go out on a limb politically. That’s Joe Gross.
A little history: Jacobowitz and Gubits were dropped in 2008 because of conflict of interest issues. Jacobowitz and Gubits were the attorneys for the Village at the same time that they were the attorneys for the LDC which built our DPW building. Again, Mayor Gross was protecting our Village from conflict of interest issues that could potentially have a law suit thrown out. Tarhis, Catania, Liberth, Mahon & Milligram, PLLC, our current Village attorneys, NOT voted for by Mayor Gross and Deputy Mayor Barbara Gosda, are also the attorneys representing Jacobowitz and Gubits. This fact was revealed to Mayor Gross and Deputy Mayor Gosda by two representatives of Tarhis, Catania at the end of a two-hour meeting concerning the DPW building. This is why our current Village attorneys cannot provide legal counsel for any issues regarding the DPW building.
I am also voting for the trustee candidates who have done their Village government homework: Andrew Argenio, who serves on several Village committees, promoting a greener, more open government and has done so for many years; Jan Smith, who took the time needed to thoroughly analyze the Village’s financial records and pledges to bring our accounting practices up to the 21st Century.
I vote Joe Gross, Andrew Argenio and Jan Smith. The three who can serve our Village best. Protectively, thoughtfully, openly.
Thank you.
Carol Loggia
