Letters to the Editor: Edsall Has Tried to Solve Problems

March 10, 2011

To the Editor:

I read Mr. Clark’s letter and find it interesting that he writes with an obvious ignorance of the facts surrounding the history of the DPW building construction. He questions Mr. Edsall as to why he missed the problems as if he designed the building and reviewed the construction.

In fact, it has been repeatedly discussed that the building was in fact built by the LDC, not the Village. The Village has a lease/purchase agreement but was not the owner and builder. Mr. Clark questions the construction on the “dump” but seems to ignore that there are other buildings on the site that seem to be just fine and ignores the evaluation done by the geotechnical engineer that says the garage may settle 1⁄2" or 2” over the next 50 to 100 years. Doesn’t seem like much, nor does it seem that Mr. Clark has read this report that Mayor Gross conveniently hid from the public.

Mr. Clark seems to imply Mr. Edsall should have performed some professional service for the Village, or more accurately (yes, I will correct Mr. Clark’s misunderstanding) the LDC. Would he then be writing here saying Mr. Edsall had a conflict of interest performing services for the Village in which he was elected? I bet yes, since Mr. Clark seems to be set on criticism and personal attacks.

Mr. Clark says we are stuck with a “little used, million-dollar building that is deemed unsafe and in need of potentially expensive code upgrades,”,but he seems to ignore that Trustee Edsall, as well as Trustees Vatter and Kane, have been trying to correct this situation for almost a year, only to be obstructed by Mayor Gross and Deputy Mayor Gosda, who seem to have no interest in getting the building fixed. Does Mr. Clark have an answer for that?

And as to Mr. Edsall using his expertise to help the Village, it would seem that even though he didn’t have that chance with the LDC, he has tried over the last year now that the problem is in the Village Board’s hands. Where is Mr. Clark’s criticism of Joe Gross who as the Mayor has caused more damage to the Village by prolonging the problem rather than working with Mr. Edsall to work to a solution?
