Letters to the Editor: Village Needs Proper Leadership

March 10, 2011

To the Editor:

I find Rick Gioia’s letter not only off the mark but quite comical. Let’s try and be adults here (may be hard for some to grasp this concept). There was absolutely no comparison made between Gaddafi and Joe Gross. There are residents in other countries that are fed up and just plain sick and tired of being led by leaders that are either dictators or incompetent. This is the same in Cornwall-on-Hudson.

What has Joe Gross’ main concern or objective been for the past two years? It’s quite apparent that it has not been to represent the people of Cornwall-on-Hudson. Joe Gross has, from what it appears, been solely consumed on dictating every issue and trying to point blame or fault on every decision that has been made by the majority of the Village Board. His failing to pay bills and refusing to sign the IMA with the Town for building inspection services, even in the face of a state order, are just two examples. This is not a leader, this is a person who, when he doesn’t get his way, will hold his breath and pout and claim “It’s all their fault”. How are these antics and traits serving the best interest of the people? They are not, they are self-serving and counter-productive.

Joe Gross’ latest act to file a legal action against his own Village and his fellow Board members is the latest example of his inability to be a leader and work with the Board. This will cost the Village taxpayers thousands and thousands of dollars on legal fees. Do you see the hypocrisy? How can his conscience allow this when he has been complaining about legal bills for months. For him it is easy, because he cares more about his destructive agenda than the Village and its taxpayers.

As to the issue of the legality of a Board vote for selection of a law firm, the issue on which Mr. Gross is wasting taxpayer’s money, Mr. Gioia should remember how it’s done. When he was first elected, it was his vote as part of a 4-0 vote of the board that kicked Jacobowitz and Gubits out as the attorneys. And the next year Mr. Gioia seconded Gosda’s motion on the 3-0 vote to hire the law firm of Rider Winer again. Note in both cases it was a board vote, not an appointment by the mayor. You may ask how the majority vote this past year to hire Tarshis Catania is any less legal than what the “3Gs” did twice. Gee, it is exactly the same, except this time the dictator wasn’t happy, so he has sued to try to get his way.

The Village needs proper leadership that can direct them back on the right track and a full Board that cares about the Village. The residents will have that with Brendan Coyne, Mark Edsall, and Doug Vatter.

On March 15th I urge all voters to cast their ballots for Coyne / Edsall / Vatter.
