General News: Town Board OKs Building Inspection IMA
March 08, 2011
The Cornwall town board voted Monday evening to approve an inter-municipal agreement to provide building inspection services to the village of Cornwall-on-Hudson for the next 90 days. The approval came a week after Mayor Joe Gross signed the agreement following an order from the New York Secretary of State to resolve the lack of services.
Cornwall building inspector Gary Vinson said Tuesday morning he had not been told yet if he should start the inspections for the village. He also noted that Mayor Gross has requested to meet with him before any work in the village begins.
When the village building inspector left in December, the town building department began providing services to the village but stopped in January until an agreement between the two municipalities could be reached. During that time, the town code enforcer conducted 15 field inspections, 15 fire inspections and reviewed seven permits, according to the building department’s records.
In the inter-municipal agreement, the village agrees to pay the town $45 an hour for its inspection services. At Monday’s town board meeting, supervisor Quigley said that fee will be charged for both past and future services.
