General News: Recent Rain, Snow Totals
March 08, 2011
The rain that fell overnight on Sunday to Monday totaled 3.06 inches, according to local climatologist Anthony Incognoli. Anthony reports that the storm ended early Monday leaving a dusting of snow in the valley.
Elevations above 1000 feet had freezing rain and snow which left an ice accretion of .10-.20 inches on the trees, he says. (See Frank Ostrander’s photos of Storm King Mountain in Frost here and photo by Bernadette Montana of the mountain here.)
Incognoli further states that February’s total snowfall for the month was 12.5 inches,, a half inch above normal. He adds that this season’s snowfall to date totals 67.1 inches but cautions that “we could still get a big storm before it’s all said and done.”
