To the Editor:
I would like to refer readers to past statements made by the candidates.
Mr. Coyne, you made public statements to our Village, where every thought began with “when” I am Mayor. Yet you did not outline in any way, shape or form how you would intend to fund the costs of the projects you support. You have stated that you intend to keep our full-time officers – I fully support that, but how much of a tax increase will it cost? You stated that “when” you are Mayor, you will involve the Village in the issues at NYMA. But again, you outlined no thoughts of how to carry through that project. At this time, with the massive legal fees, the unanswered ethics charges, and the unanswered questions regarding the structural integrity of the DPW building, do people really feel that this is a sound way to campaign for Mayoral election?
Again, Mr. Coyne, can you outline for the electorate a well thought out, and itemized plan for financially running the Village? I also ask you to answer this: if you are elected Mayor, will you push for the ethics charges to be answered?
I would also like to refer everyone to the recent article regarding the school budget. In the 2011-2012 budget “the district would also see an 8.57 percent increase in its school tax levy.” Mr. Coyne, if you are elected Mayor, how will you assist Village residents in juggling the costs of ever skyrocketing school taxes with the increased cost in Village taxes your programs are sure to cause? As an individual who is so involved in the school district, I hope that all voters ask Mr. Coyne to openly state which involvement would be his priority – if he were Mayor.
I would also like to speak to Trustees Edsall, Vatter and Kane, and former Mayor Moulton. Sirs – you support the claim that Mayor Gross’ position that there are structural issues at the DPW building is fabricated. Mr. Moulton and Mr. Edsall, as an Engineer myself I would like to ask – How was a building that size ever sited on a plot of land so low set towards the Hudson and placed square on top of a backfilled waste dump? The structural design of any building accounts for both static (stationary,) as well as dynamic (moving) loads. The DPW building, with the size of its equipment, would be continuously put under the stress of large moving loads, causing vibrations that would test the structural integrity of the building. How could either of you claim that it was a wise choice to place the facility there?
Mayor Gross has always stood by his word. He has attempted to communicate not only truthfully, but also accurately. He has put everything he is as a person into the position of Mayor. Why? To minimize the financial impact to the community, to protect the lives to those employees slated to work in the DPW building, and to ensure that our government is run ethically.
