February 26, 2011
To the Editor:
I would like to address incumbent Mayor Gross. This in no way should be taken as lack of faith in candidate Coyne.
In reference to Mr. Kelly’s February 19, 2011 letter to the editor, he speaks referring to Mayor Gross and states, “He doesn’t work well with others. His failure to show the positive qualities noted above are problematic.”
Mayor Gross, this has been a repeated thought, are you willing to address it, now? No one else can do that besides you. I ask you to speak to the electorate, not about what you have done in the past, but about how you plan to “interact” with them in the future.
However, I am writing this letter openly saying that I fully support “Joe” Gross as an incumbent Mayor. I would like to thank you, Mayor Gross, in a way, for the standstill in the Village government.
I would also like to ask the electorate to think of that strange thought like this – *Somehow*, things have not been done properly over the past year. Very badly, and we cannot change that.
By refusing to sign things, at this point only, Joe Gross is solely standing in the way of our municipality from incurring bills that we cannot go back on. We cannot go back on the legal fees we have already incurred by the Tarshis firm, even if we “attempt” to negotiate. What are we, as a municipality, going to do after the election? Go back to businesses and say oops, our past officials did not interact properly, so can we pay you less? How are we going to stay solvent?
That thought is something very similar to what “Joe” Gross told me on the street before he ever ran for Mayor. I do not view all of Mayor Gross’ “behavior” as appropriate. Yet, in this extremely important issue I see Joe Gross standing by his word, and his name, as Mayor – There is a massive issue before this Village threatening to break it financially. By refusing to sign off on things before an investigation and determination have been made regarding “how” our elected government is governing we cannot continue to incur fees. What if they are incurred improperly?
Silence speaks words. By Mayor Gross “not” signing things at this point he is still standing by his signature in his refusal to provide a “John Hancock”. In this instance I thank him for being visible, even if he is not currently likable. I hear him openly saying things are being done illegally, and he will not put a signature to that. I personally feel, if you look at comments on this website from Fall 2010 largely we, the electorate, were solely blaming Mayor Gross for the outcomes of resolutions passed from a 3-to-2 majority against him. And if you look at the numbers, we can’t afford this financially. Please recognize the attempt Joe Gross is making to speak up “for” the electorate, even if he speaks roughly.
