To the Editor:
How do we change the existing climate in Cornwall-on-Hudson, a political climate that is so dysfunctional that we are unable to provide basic services to its’ residents?
Are the issues facing the Village so complex that there is no common ground between our leaders for resolution as one unit of government? Why does virtually every matter before the board spiral into dysfunction, and why are “We the People” caught in the middle?
If elected as Trustee, I will start with understanding that everyone who holds or seeks the position is there with the sole intent to help the Village, although they may have a different opinion of how to go about it. We can all agree that it takes a tremendous amount of time and commitment to the community to run for public office, and we should all have the same end goals.
While working for the past three years on the Village Planning Board, and four years on the Riverfront Revitalization Committee, I’ve learned quite a lot about how a diverse group of individuals can approach problems from different perspectives and achieve a better finished product by working together.
I plan to bring these important lessons with me as Trustee, and agree to disagree when warranted, but always work together towards the same goal of helping bring positive results to our residents.
We can begin by working on agenda items that are not contentious. If we can successfully work on those items and bringing solutions in a respectful way, we create a strong foundation to build on.
In many aspects of my life, I have learned to listen, share, and unite to bring about success. I am confident that if every member of our government shares the same sentiment, we will end the dysfunction and start the movement forward to get the job done right.
I would like for you to vote for me on March 15th because I am a candidate who is not afraid of controversy, but willing to accept the ideas and suggestions of my fellow Trustees and Mayor as footsteps towards the climate change of our shared mission.
Andrew Argenio
Trustee Candidate
Cornwall-on-Hudson
