Letters to the Editor: Candidates Offer New Energy

February 22, 2011

To the Editor:

Wake Up, COH!

The poignant letters preceding this one need to be carefully read, and considered together as we decide the fate of our village in the upcoming election. Jan Smith, candidate for Village Trustee, has laid out our current reality in plain sight for anyone with an open enough mind to see what is truly going on here in economic terms. It should be required reading (it won't take long)!

Melissa Vellone has rightly asked that there be much greater responsiveness to concerned residents asking very specific questions of the mayor and board, as well as candidate Coyne, BEFORE the March election. Stonewalling only reinforces the suspicions which many residents now have. Her take on the village/ school board dynamic as it pertains to a Coyne mayoralty is certainly worth consideration.

Mr. Osinski, in his capacity as Zoning Board chairman, understands better than most the importance of transparency, and his letter to the editor imploring Mr. Coyne to lay out his objectives as mayor are more than worthy of a response by him. The simple fact that an alternative blueprint for the village has not been laid out should give village residents pause, as they decide who best will govern and represent their interests. i would strongly urge villagers to read (or reread) his letter.

Andrew Argenio's letter is his most current reminder of the stranglehold that 3/5th of our village board holds us in. This is an ongoing filibuster, at our expense, sadly. Our tiny community simply can't afford these Washington-style tactics, which seem to be largely ego driven.

We desperately need to move on. This is (hopefully) the end of a very old fault-line in village politics. There is a new, dynamic, and pragmatic energy in the current line-up of candidates of which we should take full advantage. It simply doesn't come along that often. Let's not blow it!

Please VOTE.
