Letters to the Editor: Candidate Questions Majority's Goals

February 16, 2011

To the Editor:

What are the stated goals of the current majority? If they’re true to their mission to work for the residents of the Village, why are they grandstanding and still getting nothing accomplished?

At the February work session, Barbara Gosda proposed a temporary solution to the DPW mess by suggesting they renovate the village-owned Maple Avenue building as an interim fix, using money available from the water department budget. It’s not the solution, but a way to get the hard-working department the proper quarters to do its job.

The ‘majority’ rejected this plan, instead wanting to use this money to pay for further engineering on the DPW building, further putting the Village in bad debt. Currently, we don’t even have an engineering firm contracted to do this work.

It seems the goals of the ‘majority’ are not to work to better the Village, rather to continue whining that they cannot get anything done.

This ‘majority’, who continually spin their wheels, want us to believe that their hands are tied when, in fact, they have the majority of votes to get important business done now. Their goals appear to be to stall Village business indefinitely or perhaps until after election day.

Our Village exists to provide, at a minimum, basic services to the residents. As this dysfunction spirals out of control, our government has been stymied to the point that we no longer can operate. Residents hoping to obtain building permits are now forced to wait because their local government can’t work together to resolve even this issue.

My goals, if elected, remain to work together to achieve the important business of the Village. They include recording meetings for public viewing, putting Village code online, develop a comprehensive review of all Village spending, reinstate the eliminated public comment, and hold referendums on all significant spending or important issues. I intend to find the common ground necessary to get our work done.

Please form your own opinion of the recent work session stalemate by taking the time to watch the video I have recorded and put on my YouTube channel ArgenioAndrew. It’s always unfiltered and unedited.

I ask for your vote on March 15th to help stop the pettiness and stalemate that currently exists. It’s time to move forward and get our Village back on track to be the place we are proud to live in.

Andrew Argenio
