To the Editor:
I have observed the current trustees’ behavior, and I keep coming to the same question. How do you lead when you are looking backward?
We should:
Record the meetings and work sessions, and put them online for interested residents to view. People have busy and hectic lives. They can’t always make the meetings and work sessions. I do not think that people who can’t make meetings should be excluded from participating in their government.
We should put the Village Code online. If a village resident has a question, they should be able to get the answer without jumping through hoops. The Village Code Book is 2 and ½ inches thick, complex and comprehensive. We should have ready access to the laws that govern our actions.
I will lead a comprehensive review of all spending. The purpose of this is to find alternative ways to provide the same services at reduced costs. This will take a lot of work and coordination with the treasurer and department heads. I will make a motion that a board of financial review be formed to involve the public in the process.
I will look to share services with other municipalities so as to qualify for funding under the governor’s recently issued initiative.
I will propose an extensive bidding policy that will save money through competitive bidding.
I will reinstate the public comment periods that were eliminated by the current majority. I would have the board follow the legal requirements for public comment times under the law in the budget process.
I will create a referendum process that requires public referendum on major expenditures.
We need to move beyond petty disputes and personal agendas of self aggrandizement at the expense of the village. The only reason to look back is to not repeat the mistakes of the past. We must move forward with a positive purpose. We must move forward.
Please vote for me for Trustee on March 15th
