On Friday, February 4, the Cornwall Central School District’s Music Department held its third Choral Music Workshop at Cornwall Central High School. All choral members from grades 4th to 12th participated along with their choral directors, Karen Boden, Lisa Moriarty, Val erie Ransbottom, Tony Ravinsky and Karen Snider.
Mr. Ravinsky came up with the idea of the workshop in 2007. Each chorus rehearsed with a director from a different school, giving students a chance to see how the other teachers work. Next, all of the choruses performed for each other individually, showing the high school students how much they’ve grown, and the elementary students how much they can accomplish if they continue to work hard.
As a finale, the groups combined their talents to perform “Seed to Sow,” a song originally recorded by the African Children’s Choir. Mr. Vic Esposito, the high school band teacher and Mr. Kevin Franca, the high school and elementary string teacher, accompanied the groups, along with Mrs. Boden on piano and students Mike Heredia, Bobby Flitsch, John Lujan and Jack Storer.
Many choral members enjoyed singing with their siblings from other schools. All four children of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Burns (pictured with Mr. Ravinsky) got to perform together at the workshop: Alex, a fourth grader at Willow Avenue; Kelsey, a student in the 5th and 6th grade chorus at the middle school; Jocelyn, in the 9th grade girls chorus, and Dylan, a 10th grader in mixed chorus.
