General News: STAR Tax Exemption Forms Due March 1st
February 07, 2011
Applications for the STAR tax exemption deadline are due by March 1, 2011 and Cornwall tax assessor Ronald Fiorentino says that both new applicants and those who have been told that they may lose the exemption should file an application.
Late last month letters were sent to more than 50 Cornwall residents saying they would lose the STAR exemption this year because they made more than $500,000 in 2009. Fiorentino says that resident who disagree with that can stop by the tax assessor’s office with a copy of their 2009 tax return. At that time, they can also file a new application for the STAR exemption.
Basic STAR is available to anyone who owns and lives in his or her own home and earns less than $500,000. Enhanced STAR is available to senior homeowners whose incomes do not exceed $79,050.
Comments:
$500K? Wow, I wish I didn't qualify for the STAR tax exemption.
