General News: Coach Blaine to Enter Hall of Fame
February 04, 2011
Don Blaine, the varsity wrestling coach at Cornwall Central High School, will be inducted into the NY State Wrestling Hall of Fame later this month prior to the state wrestling championships at the Pepsie Arena in Albany.
Coach Blaine is in his 28th year as varsity coach and has compiled a 380-116-1 record. He was the first wrestling coach in Section IX to reach 300 wins and has engineered 11 Team Dual Meet Championships, according to Cornwall Athletic Director Lou Cioiffi.
Blaine has also coached 25 state tournament qualifiers as well as a two- time state champion, Paul Paquin (1996-1997).
“This is a great and deserving honor for Coach Blaine. He is the ultimate teacher-coach who has accomplished so much on the mat but pales in comparison to what he teaches our student-athletes off the mat. He is a credit to our district and to the Cornwall Community,” Cioffi said.
Coach Blaine is a 1974 graduate of Cornwall High School and is married to Susan Blaine. They have a son, David. He graduated from Cortland College and received his administrative certificate from SUNY New Paltz. He is also a National Board Certified Teacher.
