General News: January Temperature & Snowfall Totals

With the help of his son and daughter, Anthony Incognoli reviewed some of the climate data that he has been collecting in Cornwall-on-Hudson since 1996 and in Valley Cottage, NY, since 1988. Here’s what he says about the weather this past month and how it compares to other years:
Snowfall Records
The record January snowfall for West Point is 35.90 inches, which fell in January 1961.
Cornwall-on-Hudson had the most snowfall in January, 1996 -- 34.60 inches. The least snowfall fell in January 2007 – 3.20 inches.
This January saw the second largest snowfall in his station’s history -- 34 inches.
The average January snowfall is 15 inches.
Temperatures
The January 2011 average high temperature was 31.4 degrees F.
The average low termperature was 17.3 degrees F.
The mean temperature was 24.3 degrees F, which is 2.7 degrees below normal.
