General News: Snowfall: January 2010 vs 2011
January 22, 2011
Anthony Incognoli reports on this week's snowfall and how it stacks up compared to last year:
“A quick-moving storm system early Friday morning leaves 3.4 inches of dry powdery snow, bringing this weeks snowfall total to 8.4 inches. The season total to date is 45 inches.
"This time last year we had only 14.2 inches recorded. Januaury 2010 only had 4.2 inches of snow for the entire month.
"Looks like more is on the way for Tuesday and Wednesday, too early for snowfall totals but does have potential to be a big storm."
Comments:
Anthony, if you're a weather weenie, you should come over and look at our setup. We have a weather sensor mounted on top of the marker tower in the Hudson just west of Bannerman Island, with line-of-sight communication with it via a wireless device near the top of the river side of our house. The sensor sends weather data to the house every minute or so, and the readout gives temperature in tenths of a degree, barometric pressure, wind direction and velocity, the latter in tenths of an mph. Very cool.
