Cornwall’s champion runner Aisling Cuffe has been awarded another honor with her recognition as the 2010-11 Gatorade New York Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year. The award qualifies her to be named the Gatorade National Girls Cross Country Runner later this month.
In announcing the award, Gatorade noted Cuffe’s achievements on the field, where she enjoyed an unbeaten record and won the national Foot Locker Cross Country Championships in December. In addition, it recognized her achievements in the classroom, where the Cornwall High School senior maintains an A average. She also is a returning high scorer on the high school math team and a leader in community activities in the Key Club and National Honor Society. Cuffee plans to attend Stanford University in the fall.
Right now, she is training to compete in the Junior USA Cross Country National Championships in San Diego on February 5th where she will run a 6K race against college-age competitors. The top six winners of that race will go to the Junior World Championships in Spain at the end of March.
Comments:
Congratulations, Aisling! We remember you as a little tyke who lived next door to us for a time. What a pleasure to see your accomplishments. Best of luck in San Diego!
