To the Editor:
The tax payers of the village of Cornwall have become accustom to the bickering of the village board members. When Mayor Joe Gross took a vote to write a check and didn’t like the vote outcome, he didn’t write it, even though he was voted in the minority on a 3-to-2 result.
Another of the mayor's decisions highlights his management style. The mayor decided that he should erect a monument to the environmental movement that he feels started here in Cornwall-on-Hudson. He decided to place this stone next to the stone that was erected out of appreciation for a well-loved and respected past mayor. That mayor was Mayor Doctor Donahue. This man did his best to bring Consolidated Edison to the village of Cornwall as a taxpayer.
Had Dr. Donahue succeeded, and the hydro project for electricity been successful, the taxpayers of today would not be subjected to the constant drum beat of how broke the village is, and how they are thinking “outside the box ” on how to balance a budget. Had Dr. Donahue been successful, this village board would be able to attend to the more serious agenda items, like paying attorney fees, keeping full-time law enforcement in the village, fixing the highway garage, repairing roads, and lowering the water rates to the residents.
I believe it is not too far a jump to say that the environmental movement that the mayor is so fond of has caused a cascading effect to our village. We do not have a lot of industry to assist the homeowners with their tax burdens. We have a great community in the village of Cornwall, and so I call on all in the village government to stop the turmoil, start thinking iInside the box”, use common sense, and get the job done. It was the leadership in the past and their ideology that made our village great. Although nothing in the past can be changed, the thinking for the future can.

Seriously?
You're claiming that stopping Con Edison from destroying the natural beauty of Storm King Mountain is somehow to blame for the current economic and development issues facing the Village?
Actually, that's a pretty far jump
Did you ever consider that the natural beauty of the the Cornwall area is one of the few things preventing it from winding up looking like Passaic New Jersey? That's what makes the area desirable.
Sure Con Edison would have brought a few temporary jobs to the area, but at what cost?
Donahue was an example of old-school thinking. The idea that in order to thrive, you have to constantly grow and develop.
You encourage people to think "outside the box," but the example of what you think should have been couldn't be more inside the box.
