General News: Cornwall Dancer in Pennsylvania Ballet

A young dancer from Cornwall has been hired by the Pennsylvania Ballet Company, one of the top ballet companies in the United States, to dance in the corps du ballet in its annual production of The Nutcracker.
Amanda Hill, a 2009 graduate of Cornwall Central High School Class of 2009, is currently working towards a B.F.A. in dance/ballet at the University of the Arts. She was chosen for this special performance after auditioning for Roy Kaiser, the artistic director of the Pennsylvania Ballet Company, who offered her the salaried position immediately. She has been rehearsing for the production this fall while maintaining her university status.
Amanda will be performing in the critically acclaimed production of The Nutcracker from December 4 to December 31 at The Academy of Music in Philadelphia, PA. She will be dancing in the corps de ballet numbers “Snow” and “Flowers,” side by side with the outstanding members of The Pennsylvania Ballet Company. When in the Cornwall area she still studies with her coach of many years, Natasha Bar, artistic director of The American Youth Dance Academy, in Salisbury Mills.

As part of the annual audience of the Hudson Valley Dance Theater's Nutcracker, I have watched this incredible young woman perform in many celebrations of Tchaikovsky's masterpiece while she was growing up. It is a tribute to her hard work and superb talent that she is now performing the Christmas classic with the Pennsylvania Ballet on the stage of the Academy of Music.
