General News: Modified Runners Win Medals

The Cornwall Central Middle School Modified Cross Country teams have been running strongly in recent meets. Cornwall hosted its annual 1.5 mile Invitational on October 15 for nine teams and exceptional times were posted in all groups.
Medals went to the top 25 in each group. The Cornwall runners who finished in the top include:
For 8th grade boys: Aiden Doyle, 3rd (9:06); Brendan Kachou, 5th (9:31); Kyle Sullivan, 17th (10:02).
For 8th grade girls: Ashley Wallace, 1st (10:12); Hannah Colson, 10th (11:12); Emma Sweeney, 25th (11:36).
For 7th grade boys: Michael Miller, 2nd (9:33); Andy Lujan, 16th (10:24). For 7th grade girls: Vicky Caroli, 2nd (10:23); Alice Morgan, 3rd (10:45); Lizbeydi Mozo, 8th (11:12); Amanda Guido, 18th (11:42).
At the prestigious Manhattan College 1.25 mile Invitational with 39 teams and over 300 students competing, nearly every Cornwall runner medalled in the top 75. Both Boys and Girls took 3rd place overall!
Winning performances came from Ashley Wallace (7:50), Victoria Caroli (7:51), Alice Morgan (8:33), Amanda Guido (9:03), Lizbeydi Mozo (9:06); and David Brubacher (6:53), Brendan Kachou (7:15), Aiden Doyle (7:17), Michael Miller (7:46), and Andy Lujan (7:56).

What I want to know is: Just how were these runners "modified"? Is this a "Terminator" thing, or a "Gattaca" thing?
