General News: Townsend Wins Republican Primary
September 15, 2010
U.S. senate candidate Jay Townsend, a Cornwall-on-Hudson political consultant, won the Republican party primary on Tuesday and will go on to face Democratic incumbent senator Charles Schumer in November.
Townsend was declared the winner with 72 percent of the precincts reporting that gave him a 13 point lead over his Republican opponent, former CIA agent Gary Berntsen. In Cornwall-on-Hudson he garnered the lion’s share of the Republican primary votes, -- 133 out of 171 cast. Preliminary results in four of five precincts in Cornwall showed Townsend with 249 votes to Berntsen’s 79 votes.
Townsend had already won the Conservative party endorsement for his bid to unseat senator Schumer, who is widely viewed as a tough opponent.
In other local races, Nan Hayworth won the Republican primary to challenge Democrat John Hall for his seat representing the 19th Congressional District.

Excellent selections, We all hailed from Indiana and have practiced our professions in New York. These two will provide an ethical and prudent term in our Congress.
