General News: Lions To Place Flags at Local Businesses
September 10, 2010
The Cornwall Lions Club will be out again on Saturday, September 11th following its tradition of nearly 30 years to hang the American flag locally.
With the support of local businesses, the Lions have conducted the Holiday Flag Display Program, mounting the Stars and Stripes on major national holidays outside along Main and Hudson streets.
“The Lions have proudly displayed flags in Cornwall for many years and the community appreciates seeing them,” said Lion Tom Petersen, co-chair of the program.
The Lions began this year's program on Labor Day and will continue on 9/11, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Pearl Harbor Day, Martin Luther King Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Flag Day and Independence Day.
If you own a business and would like to participate in the program, contact Petersen at 845-492-0141. The annual fee is $25, which covers the cost of flags and brackets, and supports the Lions’ many programs, including sight and hearing projects, such as helping Cornwall residents with sight problems, and community projects, such as providing college scholarships for Cornwall graduates.
