Village trustees voted on Wednesday to take immediate measures to clean up the premises of a house on Hudson Street that apparantly has been abandoned in a state of unsanitary disrepair.
Neighbors John Thomas and Maria Miller brought the house’s condition to the attention of the village board of trustees on Monday, after the former owner, Helen Grayson, said good bye to them, leaving old furniture, a car and a bag of bird seed and feces on the lawn. Inside the house, food was left on the counter and debris littered the floors. Thomas and Miller said that Grayson let as many as 30 birds, including doves and pigeons, roam freely around inside the house – and from appearances, no one ever picked up after them.
The House is Owned by a Mortgage Company
A mortgage company is now listed as the owner of the 1850 three-story brick building on the corner of Academy Avenue. Village trustees approved a resolution instructing the attorney to identify the steps to take to clean up the property, both inside and out, and get re-imbursed by the mortgage company that owns it now.
Building inspector Bruce Yancewicz, who originally asked for a search warrant to go inside the house, stressed the urgency of the matter. “Friday there will be high winds and there is a box filled with feces and bird seed,” he told the board. We don’t need garbage around the house blowing around the neighborhood.”
John Thomas later said he was pleased with the board’s response, but he noted that the mortgage company listed as the owner appears to have declared Chapter 11 bankruptcy itself, adding another layer of complications to cleaning out the house.
Comments:
Animal hoarder. Sad.
Nice to see the Village move so fast on it.
