Letters to the Editor: My Thoughts on NYMA

August 10, 2010

To the Editor:
I have, always, been as accessible, open and above board as I can be.  I don’t speak for the Town Board and Mr. Corts doesn’t speak for the
NYMA board.

Here is my personal opinion on two items:

1) Wayne Corts--
I didn’t trust him from Day #1 and that opinion has not improved, it has grown worse!

At the Town Board meeting Monday night, he proved himself to be obnoxious, arrogant, disorderly, discourteous and downright rude. His “Knight in Shining Armor” act where, out of the goodness of his heart, he is providing money and guidance for NYMA is hard to swallow. He is a business man who expects a return on every dollar he invests! He acted as if he thought the town board should be puppets and he, the puppet master, pulling the strings! Guess what, Wayne--not this board member and, hopefully, none of the others!

2) Acquisition
I love the village. I am a village resident and will do anything I think will help it. However --
No useful purpose will be served by the NYMA property becoming part of the village. The only thing it will prevent is the formation of another village. Otherwise, zoning changes or anything that could be done with the property in the village, can be done in the town. And, anything the new owners want to do in the town, they can do in the village. It will, of course, be easier to do in the village, because of the difference in population. Which means, if there are enough inhabitants on the NYMA site, there will be no need to form another village--Cornwall-on-Hudson will be ruled by the majority at the polls and will no longer exist as we now know it. Why bother to form another village when you have one ready made?

In closing, I hope their plan succeeds, but I would be remiss if I didn’t think -- what if it doesn’t?
The town must be prepared for that possibility!!

Al Mazzocca
Cornwall town councilman

Comments:

Thank you Mr. Mazzocca for your letter. I agree with you 100% especially regarding not trusting Corts. I know there are MANY people in our town who are frightened, and extremely hesitant to speak up. What can we really do about this though? When you say "I hope their plan succeeds" what exactly IS their plan? Why would Corts swoop-in and "save-the-day" and want nothing in return? That seems quite hard to believe now doesn't it?!!
