Cornwall’s major softball all-star team had a tremendous run this year, winning the District 19 title and rolling on to face Wappinger’s Fall in a tough series for the Section 4 title race that ended in a hard-fought defeat on Thursday evening.
Cornwall’s face-off with the Wappinger’s team began on Tuesday, when the two teams were locked in a 2-2 tie for seven extra innings, ending at the bottom of the 13th inning with a 3-2 loss for Cornwall.
The two teams met again on Wednesday in a “winner take all” face-off. After three innings, the Cornwall girls held the edge 5-4, when the game was called due to stormy weather.
On Thursday, they returned to complete the last three innings of the game and the battle was intense. On two occasions, Cornwall had the bases loaded but failed to deliver the hit needed to bring a runner home. The game ended with a score of 7-6, a win for Wappingers.
A brilliant season ended for a group of talented and motivated softball players who clearly have the power to achieve reach great heights in the future.
