General News: Town Thanks Ellick for Video Service
|
Al Mazzocca shakes Alex Ellick's hand after Monday's meeting. |
July 13, 2010
Town councilman Al Mazzocca had a special announcement at the start of Monday’s council meeting: he wanted to thank volunteer videographer Alex Ellick for his work taping the town council meetings.
Ellick, who graduated from Cornwall Central High School in June, plans to attend SUNY New Paltz next month and will no longer be available to volunteer. Ellick first volunteered two years ago to use his own video camera to record the meeting and make copies of the recording to send to Time Warner Cable Channel 23, to place in the public library and to provide a copy for the town clerk.
As a result of the dozens of hours that Ellick spent observing the town meetings, he likely knows more about local projects and politics than most people in town.
“He tapes the meeting and takes it to the television channel and he doesn’t get paid a dime,” councilman Mazzocca said. “Gives me a little more faith in the youth of our country. He’s a great kid, Alex Ellick.”
Anyone who would like to volunteer to videotape future meetings of the Cornwall town council may contact the town clerk, Elaine Schneer, at 534-9100.
Comments:
This young man provided a VERY valuable service to the town and it will be missed. I attended virtually every town board meeting for two years and Alex Ellick was always there so those who could not attend the meetings in person could see video on local cable and then on the town website. I will miss the ability to stay in touch via the website. Good luck Alex and come back in four years and run for a town board seat! You know how the town works as well as anyone now and we need young bright people such as yourself. Thanks for your service!
