A crowd came out to the Cornwall Independence Day celebration held in the spirit of the day at Cornwall town hall on the 4th of July. After the Pet Show, folks strolled the grounds, sampling the food and checking out the jewelry, clothing and other goodies for sale.
Local Groups Welcome the Public
Local Cornwall groups welcomed the public to learn about their organizations – the Cornwall Historical Society, the Boy Scouts and a group that encouraged passersby to stop and write a letter to the troops in Afghanistan.
Tours of Sands-Ring Homestead
Across Main Street, the Sands-Ring Historical Homestead opened its doors for public tours of 18th-century home built by some of the earliest settlers of Cornwall. Back at town hall, members of the Cornwall Lions Club were busy steaming lobsters and Nan Hayworth, who is running for the U.S. Congress in the 19th- district, greeted people she met on the grounds.
Zumba Dancing and Lots of Music
Late in the morning, Zumba instructors from Sportsplex took the main stage where they led a crowd of women in the lively dance exercise under the increasingly hot sun. Throughout the afternoon, other bands played at town hall, including the Black Sheep Band, the Haywyre Band and Treble in Paradise, the acappella group made up of students from Cornwall high school. Sam the Magician entertained children in the early afternoon and just before the fireworks, the Cornwall Reunion Band played all-time favorite hits.
An encore presentation of the Cornwall historical pageant rounded out a day of tradition on Independence Day.
Comments:
It was a great 4th...thanks to everyone who organized the day! I hope someone videotaped the event for future generations to enjoy! If someone did - maybe you could donate a copy to the Cornwall Historical Society and library. Happy Birthday America!*!*!
