From the Cornwall Independence Day Committee
The Fourth of July is almost here but there’s still time to join the line of march for the Cornwall Independence Day Parade.
Glen M. McGinnis, Cornwall native and longtime Cornwall educator and athleticscoach, will lead the parade as the 2010 grand marshal. McGinnis has been coaching boys and girls for 52 years. Federal, state and local government leaders will follow.
Nine bands will perform this year, including the MacLeods of Cornwall, the Civil War Troopers Fife & Drum Corps, and the Cornwall Middle School Band under the
direction of Steve Kessler.
The parade will feature a number of floats, including the Cub Scout Pack #6 Float, the Duncan Avenue Block Party Float and the Cornwall Public Library Float. The
Cornwall Independence Day Committee encourages organizations to create floats, which are the highlight of the parade, and can provide vehicles to help pull or carry floats.
CIDC invites children to ride their bicycles and skateboards in the parade. A Cornwall-on-Hudson police officer will accompany the children on a bicycle. The bicycle
and skateboard unit will appear in Division III, which will line up at 4 p.m. on Payson Road in the village. To participate, children can contact parade coordinator Paul
Korykora (534-8667) or sign up during the day of the Fourth at the CIDC tent.
The sooner new participants contact Korykora, the better their chances are of appearing in the line of march in the CIDC program journal.
Donations are welcome to pay for the Cornwall Independence Day Celebration and may be mailed to: CIDC, P.O. Box 542, Cornwall, NY 12518. - CIDC -
