General News: SLCH to Cut 20 Positions
June 14, 2010
St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital plans to cut 20 positions next month in response to continuing state and federal budget cuts. The hospital currently employs 1,400 people.
Deborah Turner, the hospital’s vice president of human resources, announced that the staff reduction will impact all levels of the organization, including management.
At the Cornwall campus of the hospital, non-patient food service will be eliminated, although patients will continue to receive all dietary and nutritional needs. Visitors and employees at the Cornwall campus will have access to greater offering of light meals to go in the hospital gift shop, which will have expanded hours, according to Sue Sullivan, hospital vice president for development and government affairs.
In addition, physical therapy services now available at a hospital facility on Route 9W will be consolidated in its facility on Route 207 in New Windsor. The changes are scheduled to be effective on July 16th.
“This decision was not made lightly as we understand the impact on those twenty families that are part of our community,” Deborah Turner said, noting that SLCH remains committed to its mission to deliver exceptional quality care to the community.
