Cornwall area teens are being offered an opportunity to take part in a weeklong art workshop this July that is designed to encourage young artists to find themselves through the creative process.
Local painter Joy Gilinsky Monte is running Teen Art As Expression from July 19th to 23rd at Studio 208 in Cornwall-on-Hudson. Joy says that no art experience is necessary, just a creative adventurous spirit. She says the workshop will begin with journal making that will incorporate paint, illustration, collage and mixed media. The group will explore journaling, stream of consciousness writing, poetry, symbols, imagery, dreams and even doodles as part of a creative journey.
The workshop participants will be encouraged to create two stories, one that is an expression of the negative part of one’s life and one that is an expression of one’s hopes and dreams. The workshop will end with a "happy ceremony" and an exhibition opening.
Joy Gilinsky Monte is a nationally known commercial iIlustrator and designer as well as an expressionistic and intuitive painter. She has spent her life exploring her art as a means of expression and as a road map towards self awareness and inspiration. For questions, or to register for the workshop ($275) you may contact the artist at [email protected] or by calling (845) 562-5305.
