June 07, 2010
To the Editor:
With Sunday, the Fourth of July 2010, just a few weeks away, the Cornwall Independence Day Committee is looking for participants, committee members and volunteers.
It’s time to confirm the line-of-march for the parade so participants can be listed in the program journal. The committee encourages organizations to create floats, which are the highlight of the parade. The committee has chosen Glen McGinnis, Cornwall native and longtime Cornwall educator and athletics coach, as the 2010 grand marshal. Please call parade coordinator Paul Korykora (534-8667) to learn how to participate.
Dave Feuer is coordinating the 10th annual Main Street Mile. Please call Karen Ganz (534-2051) to join the runners.
Spaces are still available for crafts people, merchandise and service vendors, and non-profit organizations. Please call Kathy Sacer (534-4565) with inquiries.
Sally Faith Dorfman (534-4303) is producing the historical pageant and welcomes participants on and behind the stage.
The committee will raise more than $30,000 to carry out the day’s festivities. We have begun soliciting journal ads and selling raffle tickets for Yankee games (courtesy of Angelo Schembari) and dinners at local restaurants (Canterbury Brook Inn, Drew’s on the Square and the Hudson Street Café) weekends at the Cornwall shopping plaza. We will soon be sending letters soliciting contributions; you may send a contribution to: CIDC, P.O. Box 542, Cornwall, NY 12520. Jerry and Sue Fink have designed a T-shirt depicting an eagle flying over the train trestle and it will soon be available for purchase. If you have any questions (including how to place a journal ad saluting our grand marshal), please call fundraising coordinator Bill Rolon (562-2923).
Lastly, the committee has some 35 members and welcomes new members and volunteers to help make the celebration successful. The committee needs help with fundraising and coordinating events all day and night on the Fourth. It’s a great deal of fun and very satisfying to pull the community together for this wonderful celebration. If interested, please call me (534-4780). Visit our website: www.cornwall4th.org.
Sincerely,
Brendan G. Coyne
Chair, CIDC
