History buffs can breathe a sigh of relief following a last-minute reprieve for three local state-run historical sites that mark important episodes in the American Revolution.
A last-minute deal that diverted funds earmarked for the New York State Environmental Protection Fund into the state parks system will allow 55 parks and historic sites to open. Last month, Governor David Paterson announced that the parks and sites would not open on Memorial Day due to budget constraints.
The local sites impacted by the move are the Knox Headquarters and New Windsor Cantonment in New Windsor and the Stony Point historic site in Rockland County.
