To the Editor:
The Town of Blooming Grove and Village of South Blooming Grove are represented by two County Legislators - Kevin Hines (District #12) and Katie Bonelli (District #5). Last week I acknowledged and thanked Mr. Hines for working on behalf of his constituents. Unfortunately, I can't say the same about Ms. Bonelli.
For the past few months, Ms. Bonelli has voted along party lines and with County Executive Eddie Diana, even when it was against the best interests of her constituents. She has not taken into consideration the views of the local elected officials on issues affecting the district. Katie has voted for the amended Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS), which obligates the county to unlimited sewage expansions.
In the county website, under Ms. Bonelli's information, you will find that one of her important issues is Water and Sewer particularly in Southern Orange County. If so, why did she vote for the amended FEIS?
In the next month or so, the county legislators will be voting on the expansion of the Orange County Sewer District No. 1 (OCSD #1) to include Camp LaGuardia and the Comprehensive Plan that will include the Water Master Plan. Will Ms. Bonelli vote in the best interests of her constituents or County Executive Diana? After the May 25th public hearing on the expansion of OCSD #1 where many concerned citizens and local elected officials expressed their views, concerns and asked that the legislators vote against the expansion, I believe Ms. Bonelli and her colleagues should vote No.
Ms. Bonelli - do the right thing - vote in the best interests of your constituents. You have an opportunity to show leadership and independence.
